How to reject Mens’ advances Gracefully
Ladies are you unsure on how to effectively reject a man’s advances toward you without hurting his feelings?
If so, how to do it with grace so that you save face and don’t harm his self esteem?
The thing is every time you reject an unwanted advance in a cold, nonchalant fashion it affects the person’s self esteem. As a result that person starts feeling less worthy of people’s approval, as rejection registers in the same part of the brain as physical pain.
Remember that it has taken a lot of courage to come up and speak to you, be gentle.
So if you would like to be able to stop unwanted advances to ensure everyone’s dignity remains intact, you need to start rejecting them with grace. To help you achieve this outcome I have gone over four ways to help you achieve this outcome:
- Don’t be bitter
Ladies let’s all agree that it takes a lot for a man to walk up to you out of nowhere and spark a conversation out of thin air. He really is putting himself out there. It’s a terrible idea to be overly dismissive and disgusted by their efforts, or even worse choose not to acknowledge them at all.
Rather look at it for what it is, a compliment. If you look at an advance toward you as a compliment, it will change the whole dynamic of the interaction.
- Don’t forget the basic courtesies
Before we deal with the rejection part just yet, it helps to remember the basic courtesies; smile and thank them for the wonderful compliment. This is critical for softening the blow.
- The Warm Rejection
Keyword being ‘warm’. This entails politely telling them that unfortunately you are not interested. There doesn’t need to be a reason, excuse, or even a lie involved. It is as simple as that.
- If all else fails – Use the stuck record approach
Before I get my head chewed off by women who say some men are just too persistent and don’t get the message. Well there is a solution to that too. It’s called the stuck record approach. Which basically means keep saying “no.” It doesn’t require a follow up reason or any other form of communication for that matter. There is nothing quite as effective as just using the word “no” with no follow up explanation.
Ladies, In parting I leave you with the words of the ever so wise Mahatma Ghandi who said – “You have to be the change you want to see in the world” – which I have loosely translated to, show men how to be better. Treat them with respect and dignity and in turn they to will respect women in the same way.
